Grandma''s and Grandpa's
are everything nice
Like presents and candy
and raspberry ice
And chocolate fudge sundaes,
with cherries on top
And popcorn and peanuts
and grape soda pop
In winter or summer,
in rain or in sun
Grandma's and Grandpa's
are wonderful fun

I came across an email that I thought was really interesting, so I thought I would post it.

VICKS VAPOR RUB…TRY IT, IT WORKS

I wish I’d known this when my family was young during winter
    colds
And coughs. I am going to try it myself.
Share with young parents.  Isn’t life strange.
When we had a lecture on Essential Oils, they
Told us how the foot soles can absorb oils.
    Their example:
Put garlic on your feet and within 20 minutes you can ‘taste’ it.
    Some
Of us have used Vicks Vaporub for years for everything from chapped
Lips to sore toes and many body parts in between. But I’ve never
Heard of this. And don’t laugh, it works 100% of the time although
The scientists at the Canada Research council (who discovered it)
    aren’t
    Sure why.
To stop night time coughing in a child (or adult as we found out
Personally), put Vicks Vaporub generously on the bottom of the feet at
Bedtime, then cover with socks. Even persistent, heavy, deep coughing
Will stop in about 5 minutes and stay stopped for many, many hours of
    Relief.
Works ! And is more effective in children than
Even very strong prescription cough medicines.
In addition it is extremely soothing and comforting and they will
    sleep
    Soundly.

I heard the head of the Canada Research Council describe these
    findings
On the part of their scientists when they were investigating the
Effectiveness and usage of prescription cough medicines in children as
Compared to alternative therapies like acupressure.  Just happened to
Tune in AM. Radio and picked up this guy talking about why cough
Medicines in kids often do more harm than good due to the chemical
Makeup of these strong drugs so,I listened.
    It was a surprise finding
And found to be more effective than prescribed medicines for children
    at
Bedtime, in addition to have a soothing and calming effect on sick
Children who then went on to sleep soundly.

If you have grandchildren, pass it on. If you end up sick, try it
Yourself and you will be absolutely amazed by the effect

Well, Pete and I are taking Amanda and Jake to Chucky Cheese today.  He loves going there and has so much fun running around.

I also would like to ask everyone to send me some cookie recipies for Christmas.  I would like to start a cookie recipe exchange…so send me what you got!  hugs, Grammy Laurie

Hi everyone, sorry I havn’t posted in a few days, but I have been enjoying the last few days off work!  We had a wonderful Thanksgiving with lots and lots of food and everyone had a really good time!  We missed Stacey and Dennis and William this year again.  It would have been our first Thanksgiving with the baby, but DJ had to work, so I guess we will try again next year.  We wont be able to spend Christmas with them either for the same reason, but I guess one day we will be able to see them more often.  I just hate that we don’t get to see William growing and learning.  Later on when he is older he will know we are his grandparents but he will never really know us not being able to see us very often.  Oh well, I am sure a lot of grandparents have to go through this.  I just didn’t think it would be so hard.

Amanda and Jacob and I went to the mall yesterday and had a really good time!  Amanda was able to get most of her shopping done and she got me a couple of sweaters for work.  We enjoyed eating at the mall and Jake had fun watching the all the activity and seeing the kids.  We are going to take him back next week to see Santa.  Boy where does the time go..it seems like just a couple months ago we took him to see Santa.

I have started my Christmas decorating on the house and have the trees up and some decorations around the house.  We will get to the outside I am hoping on Pete’s day off on Wednesday or Thursday.  I have some really cute things to put out there.  I will send a picture through when we get it done.

Well, I have to work today to make up for Friday, so I will try to post again tomorrow.  For now, have a blessed and happy day!  hugs to you, Grammy Laurie

I have been looking around lately at other peoples blogs, and I have noticed, as most people who blog have, that there is such a diverse amount of blogs out there, you can literally pick a subject and someone has blogged about it.  When the blog first came out, it was more of an online diary of sorts.  Now, it is used for everything from journaling, to work related articles for companys to post to their employees, to selling information and product.  I think most people however who blog use it as a way to say what is on their minds, letting others know what is going on in their little area of the world, to blow off steam and rant and rave about what concerns them or their circumstances without repercussions from anyone.  It is a way to communicate how you feel and why you feel it.  To show off your talents and to show off your pictures.  To hopefully connect to someone going through the same situation you are and hopefully getting some new insight into how to handle such things, or just knowing that someone else is out there going through the same thing.  Some just throw thoughts out there into the vast universe of the internet to see what kind of response they will get.  It is an exhilerating thing to have someone comment back or recognize your blog in some way.  We get excited that there are others out there that we wouldnt have otherwise met and connected to.  We usually never meet these people but they are made into instant friends, and we will then chat back and forth getting to know one another without actually knowing one another.  Letting our minds and thoughts communicate with each other without the fear of what the other looks like..just that we connect and agree on something makes it fun and wonderful.  I have met a thousand different people on the internet and in just a short time of blogging, have recieved comments and cuddos from so many people from all across the world….imagine that…from people in other countries…reading what I have to say…living through the same type of things, connecting if not in actuality, in conciousness……WHEW….I just floated off into the vastness and almost got lost with that one….LOL!!  Alright, Grammy Laurie…to earth…hahaha!  Anyways, I was just sitting here in my thoughts and was amazed at it all….so there ya go…another thought and insight thrown again out into the vastness….who will answer I wonder….who will I connect with next???   Hey!!!!  Its you!!!   Thanks for coming by!!!  I am so excited to get to know you also!!  Sit a spell and lets chat a while…let me know what is going on in your part of the world!!  Hugs to you!!   Grammy Laurie

My goodness the weekend flew by!  I have been so busy, I didnt get a chance to relax and enjoy it.  Amanda and I shopped and took Jake to chuckie cheese.  He had a blast, but it sure hard to keep track of a 21 month old in there!  He did not want to leave after an hour.  But we had more places to go, so we stuck a movie in the dvd player and walah…happy baby!  LOL.  What great modern conviences there are today for moms.  I wish I had such things when mine were little.  It sure would have made those long trips much nicer and quieter…lol.

They were saying on the news this morning that we might see some snow by Thanksgiving….magical holiday snow…who knows what might happen!  I love the first snowfall..it is so beautiful and quiet…so silent when it falls and so clean and sparkly!  I love sparkly!  Christmas lights are my favorite!  I love to go look at other peoples decorations and see their light displays.  Speaking of that, I need to get my Christmas decorations out and get my tree up…oohh I love decorating for the holidays!  I will post some pictures once I get it all done for you all to see!   Let me see what you have done when you get yours all up too!  hugs, Grammy Laurie

My oh my, I just cant seem to be able to get on here every day and write a post.  I have been so busy lately with running errands and watching Jake and working…whew….I need a day to myself!  I have come to realize that the life of a working grandmother is alot more hectic than I thought!  I love to spend time with my grandson, but when he doesnt take a nap, grammy doesnt get a nap….lol!  And that makes grammy one tired lady waiting for 11 pm to get off of work!  I wanted to be able to get some recipies for you all on here for thanksgiving, but havnt been able to yet.  I will do that this weekend, cause I tell you what, everyone is going to leave me alone for  a full day so I can get some things caught up on here!  I have been trying to keep on my emails and the things I need to get done for the FCN group I am in, but I need more time….where oh where is the time in the day?  Now, time to clean the house!!  have a great day!  Grammy Laurie

Ok, has everyone started planning out your thanksgiving dinner?  What kind of things do you make?  I have been thinking about what to serve and was wanting some new ideas or recipies.  I will be making a turkey and potatoes and gravy.  I will be having green bean cassarole.  I would also like to make some sweet potatoes.  Other than that, I dont have any new ideas.  So, if anyone has any, let me know!

Pete and I had a wonderful time for our anniversary!  We had a delicious dinner and a romantic evening!  And having 4 days off to do it, has been really nice.

My daughter Amanda wants me to help her paint Jacobs room today, so I guess I am going to be busy with that instead of relaxing…ah well, that is life…when you think you have it all planned out….other things always come up.

Send me some Thanksgiving recipie ideas here:

Hello everyone!  I am sorry I havnt posted in a while…the days are flying by with not enough time in them to do everything I want to get done.  It is looking to be a very chilly week ahead with temps only in the low 50’s for highs and in the 30’s for lows…brrr…winter here we come!

I have had a wonderful time this weekend going to our Light up Shelbyville!  It seems a little early for that, but I took Amanda and Jacob and met up with my good friend Lisa and her two girls Brittany and Hannah and a friend from work Kristina and her 3 boys.  It was chilly, which helped make it seem more like the time to see christmas lights.  We visited lots of shops and stopped at alot of booths and listened to wonderful Choirs performing all sorts of songs, then at 6:30 they lit up the big tree in town and along the streets.  We took a lovely horse and buggy ride around town and then came back to my house for hot chocolate and donuts.  It was really fun!

On Sunday, Lisa and Pete and I went to breakfast, then we took Pete home and Lisa and I went to a new peddlers mall in town here.  It was so much fun looking around and I did manage to pick up a few trinkets for Christmas.  Then I came home and cleaned up a bit then watched Spiderman 3 with Amanda and Jake.

Today, we have to go to the funeral home for the showing of a good friend of ours whos mother passed away.  It is so sad for her, but I know God can fill the void over time.  I am sure once the grief wears off she will see that a great burden has been lifted from her as she has been caring for her for quite some time.  I pray the Lord blesses and eases her grief.

Well, if the week proves to be as busy as the weekend was, we are in for a long week!  Good Luck everyone…and have a blessed week!  Grammy Laurie

    Thought for the Day!

This is the beginning of a new day.  You have been given this day to use as you will.  You can waste it or use it for good.  What you do today is important because you are exchanging a day of your life for it.  When tomorrow comes this day will be gone forever; in its place is something that you have left behind..let it be something good.
